As he was addressing Rwandans gathered at San Fransisco, California, USA, President Paul Kagame reminded them that any nation can’t survive as a nation if its cultural backgrounds are lost. He therefore called them to keep strengthening cultural ties that characterized Rwandan from immemorial times.
President Kagame who was conducting this annual event labeled RwandaDay said that upholding Rwandan culture will make Rwandans, both living abroad and in Rwanda, more united as a nation and this will lead to a sustainable development.
The event that took place in San Fransisco, California, this Saturday was , for the first time as compared to the preceding ones, RwandaCulturalDay.
This nomination is closely related to the aim of the event as it targeted to remind the young Rwandan generations living abroad the norms and values that make the backbone of Rwandan culture.
In his remarks, President Kagame started by thanking all participants who came from Rwanda, Europe and USA to attend that important event for all Rwandans who are willing to construct their nation.
As he proceeded, President Kagame commended the Western for its support to Rwanda and to Africa as whole but called them ‘to mind their own business’.
For him, one can’t dictate to someone else what is good for him if the later does not consent with it. He said that Rwanda and Africa are in a good path towards to development, adding that journey is still long ahead.
The Head of State said that every nation has its cultural backgrounds that guide to its social and economic development therefore its development depends on its political will.
President Kagame said that all challenges that Rwandans faced opened their minds are currently more firm and committed to positively face them more effectively than ever before.
Being a refugee taught us how to endure challenges and strive to be as united and mutual helpful as never before, President Kagame has underlined.
The current struggle is to make our lives more productive and effective, he added.
As he was ending his remarks, President Kagame called the youth to remember that Rwandan culture is a foundation upon which nation is built and should be upheld by its youth.
He told them to study in the foreign countries including USA but never forget to return home and use their knowledge and skills in building their motherland.
