Seven foreign envoys present credentials

Seven new ambassadors accredited to Rwanda presented their credentials to President Paul Kagame, yesterday, and pledged support to the country’s development.

The envoys included those that are resident in Kigali; Andrey Vradimirovich Polyakov of Russia, and China’s Shen Yongxianga.

Addressing the media after presenting their letters of credence at Village Urugwiro, the envoys, at intervals, pledged to promote bilateral cooperation between Rwandaand their countries in areas of socio-economic development, as well as world peace.

“We have bilateral ties with Rwanda which was soldified when Rwanda was elected as a non-permanent member of the UN Security Council,” said Polyakov.

He added: “I was entrusted by President Vladimir Putin to continue developing relations between our two countries and I will do my best to enrich what we have already done, and also find new important ventures.”

Other envoys who presented their credentials included Mozambique’s Vicent Mebunia Veloso, Flossie Gomile-Chidyaonga of Malawi and Luis Manuel Cuesta Civis of Spain all of whom will reside in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania.

The others are Dan Frederiksen of Denmark, who will be resident in Kampala, Uganda, and Yaquob Yousef al-Sanab of Kuwait to be based in Nairobi, Kenya.

The Russian envoy added that: “In exactly a month’s time on October 17, we will be celebrating the 15th anniversary of establishing relations between the Soviet Union and Rwanda.”

He said the partnership between Russia and Rwanda have mainly centred on capacity building.

China for culture

The new Chinese envoy, Shen, said other than promoting economic and trade partnerships, he will focus on cultural exchanges between the two countries.

“In the political aspect, China is very interested in Rwanda’s vision, experiences and policies. China has a lot of things to learn from Rwanda. Both countries are on the right path and have chosen their own visions,” Shen said.

On her part, the Malawian ambassador, Gomile-Chidyaonga, said her mandate will be to reinvigorate Malawi’s relationship with Rwanda, especially in economic areas.

“We will be having meetings shortly to identify areas of cooperation and mutual benefits,” she said.

Dane Frederiksen reiterated support to Rwanda’s contribution in fostering peace and security in the East African region.

“Rwanda is a shining example to countries around the world. Under the leadership of President Kagame, a lot has been achieved in socio-economic prosperity and political development. Rwanda has also played a major role in the region and we intend to maintain political dialogue with the government to help in solving the peace and security issues in the region,” he said.
