She earns 30 Million a month due to chicken husbandry

Umulisa Kamuhanda Odette told UM– USEKE that, through her chicken husbandry activities she earns 30 Rwf million, a month. This woman says that after surviving the genocide against the Tutsi, she thought  about setting a business that can help her living better.

I started slowly but firmly in order to find out at which extent the business can be effective. I wanted to supply local markets with chicken’s meat  instead of importing them from neighboring countries, she said.

She said that she started by domesticating 1000 chickens which grown up and provided her with tremendous financial incomes, convincing her that this business can be promising.

Umulisa observed the increasing need for the chicken’s meat in Kigali and this encouraged her to keep investing in her  business.

For her, even the DRC and Congo Brazza markets need her supplies in the chicken’s meat.

This business provided  21 workers with jobs, among whom 20 completed the secondary school education  while another one  has a university degree.

One of the most challenging situations she faces concerns  a lack of adequate factories that process modern chicken’s food.

This business has helped her to positively face the consequence  of the Genocide against the Tutsi.

After finding out that  almost all of my family members were massacred during the genocide, I felt it could be better if all people who  killed her family members could be killed too, she revealed.

But now that I own this business, I feel comfortable with myself and with everyone. I am no longer thinking too much about the tragedy i went through, she told UM– USEKE reporter.

As Rwanda is nearly to commemorate the genocide against the Tutsi for the 20 time, Umulisa urges all Rwandans to listen to the needs of the genocide survivors as to help them facing this challenging period.
