Six residential houses at Maua police station in Igembe South sub-county were on Monday razed following a fire allegedly ignited by a gas cylinder. Witnesses said an explosion was heard from the timber houses before a huge fire erupted.
The fire spread rapidly before fire brigade from Maua Fire Station arrived and extinguished it.
No property was salvaged from the affected houses, leaving the affected officers counting losses. No one was injured.
Igembe Central MP Kubai Kiringo visited the scene and promised to consult his Igembe South counterpart to set aside some money from the Constituency Development Fund to construct new houses for the officers.
ASSIST THE OFFICERS
Mr Elijah M’Ikiburu, who is an aide to Igembe South MP Mithika Linturi, said a committee would be formed to find ways of assisting the affected officers.
