Statement on investigation of man who set himself on fire

July 29, 2014, a man identified as Nsengiyumva Dieudonne allegedly set himself on fire in Muhima Sector in the District of Nyarugenge.

The incident happened at about 11:30 am at a place commonly known as ‘PAYAGE’.

Police immediately intervened and evacuated him to the Central University Teaching Hospital of Kigali (CHUK) for treatment.
Though he is still unconscious, he is now stable.
Rwanda National Police has started investigations to find out what prompted the man’s actions.
Nsengiyumva Dieudonne was found with pellets of cannabis and preliminary investigations indicate that he was under the influence of drugs and alcohol.
Rwanda National Police appeals to the general public to supplement ongoing investigations by providing information related to the victim.
