Responding to a question of a journalist during a radio Isango show, Ambassador Kamali Karegesa said that Kigali streets will be labeled with heroes names very soon, adding that the delay for that was due to the legal procedures concerning the naming.
He said that during a radio show held at Isango star that aimed at explaining to the public the role Rwandan heroes had played in promoting the Rwandan spirit (The Ndi Umunyarwanda).
For him, heroes day is meant to help Rwandans reflect on the positiveness of developing the culture of patriotism among Rwandans.
The cerebration reminds to the public how the culture of patriotism has helped Rwandans prosper throughout History, said Amb Karegesa.
Reacting to the extent at which the journalists have sensitized to the public about the benefits of cultivating the spirit of heroism and patriotism, Steven Mutangana, an invited journalist observed a relatively small involvement of media in increasing the public awareness on the usefulness and meaning of being a hero.
Ambassador Karegesa revealed to the public that in honor of the Rwandan heroes, the Rwandan commission of national heroes is listing or places that can be named heroes names as to help the young generations keep in minds the role heroes have played in building of the nation.
Amb Karegesa explained that the fact heroes’s day is currently cerebrated at the grassroots level does diminish its importance rather it helps all Rwandans feel closely connected to heroes’ ideals.
Steven Mutangana urged the concerned bodies to construct memorial mausoleums displaying images of heroes so to help the new generations have an idea of the Rwandan heroes.
To this idea has been welcomed by Amb Karegesa who said that these ideas were being assessed as to find out effective ways of constructing such historical sites.
Asked on who among the heroes he considers as to be the most exemplary one, Amb Karegesa responded that what matters most is to teach to his children the heroic values and it is up to them to decide whose hero to set to up as a model.
In order to increase the awareness of the heroes’ and patriotism ideals among young generations,Ambassador Karegesa said that the Heroes commission inaugurated different many heroism awareness clubs in different secondary schools.
At international scene, the discussion focused on the recent resignation of three ministers from the UPRONA Tutsi dominated political party. The Ministers resigned due to the ousting of one of the leading political figures called Bernard Busokoza.
Listeners intervening in the show lauded the idea of listing all sites worthy to be labeled heroes names, saying that his will be young generations learn from moral values that have characterized Rwandans from immemorial times.
The weekly show aims at developing the culture of debate among Rwandans on issues that concern Rwanda and the international breaking news. It is supervised by IPP and ARJ. The show is broadcasted at six more radio stations Isangano, Ishingiro, Izuba, Inkoramutima , Radio ten and Voice of Africa.
