It was around 1PM that the former intelligence chief of the FDLR militia, Lt Col Desire Habamungu stepped down in Rwand through the Rubavu-Goma border. He was accompanied by the UN peacekeeping mission agents in DRC known as MONUSCO.
Addressing media, Lt Col Habamungu said that he is delighted to be back in his motherland after a long years spent in bushy areas of the DRC.
Sources say that the senior officer presented his willingness to return home last Sunday.
He has been serving the FDLR for so long and his presence in Rwanda provides such an opportunity to learn more from the FDLR’s plans.
Lt Col Habamungu worked alongside FDLR chief commander Gen Victor Rumuri Byiringiro.
As he arrives at the border, he was welcomed by Rwandan military senior officers and was accompanied by four other military but of a lower level.
He returned back with his wife and four children who are relatively old.
Apparently physically fit, expressing his willingness to closely participate in the nation building process.
He encouraged the rest of FDLR’s fighters left in DRC to return back home, adding that the Rwanda is peaceful and prosperous enough to live in.
He will be soon be located in Mutobo rehabilitation center to learn about the new Rwanda as he has been living abroad for a long time.
