According to the Minister of Defense Gen James Kabarebe, the Kanombe military camp formerly called the Mayuya Camp will be relocated in Rwamagana District in Mwurire sector, in the Eastern Province.
The Defense Minister Gen Kabarebe told the Parliament that the relocation of the camp is due to the fact that Rwanda Military Hospital is being extended. He said also that the reason for this relocation is due to the speedy urbanization of the Kigali city at large.
Minister Gen Kabarebe said that the Kanombe military camp that hosts heavy weaponry and is the largest military camp will be relocated to an isolated area that will enable the camp to operate safely both to the military but also to the civil population.

The relocation of the military camp will be of a great importance as it will reduce the deadly accidents that are susceptible to happen such as the incendiaries that have burnt weapons in countries as Tanzania and Congo- Brazzaville in the preceding years.
The area where the comp will be built has been prepared and all the relocation and construction activities will cost over 2, 9 billion Rwandan francs, Gen Kabarebe said.
