According to the reformed penal code, any ones who will be willing to abort will be obliged to do so in front of a law maker and make an oath. If the one to abort will be a minor, she will be accompanied by her mother and will not have to make an oath in the court.
One of the lawyers who participated into the penal code reform called Lambert Dushimimana explained to media that anyone who aborts without a legal permission will face sanctions.
Depending on the Maputo protocol that Rwanda has signed, there are legally accepted reasons one can make an abortion.
One can be allowed to abort only she has been sexually abused, or has been undergone the forced marriage among other reasons defined by the law.
Dushimimana warned that the law does not allow anyone to abort but depending on her willingness but based on the law, one can do it.
After controversial claims concerning the mechanisms that could lead to the abortion, lawyers have eased the procedures allowing one to abort.
The woman or a girl who will be willing to abort will bring the wish to a court and the judge will assess it and after five days, the judge will present his/her final decision on the matter.
Before the act becomes legally accepted and carried out, the one wishing to abort will be ought to make an oath in front of the judge.
Whoever will lie and found guilty, will face tough sanctions, lawyers said.
