This morning at the Kigali stadium located at Nyamirambo, many officials gathered to elect the new mayor of Kigali city after the former one, Fidel Ndayisaba was appointed to a new post in the National Commission of Unity and Reconciliation.
According to news coming from the site, Mukaruriza Monique is elected with 182 votes out of 190.
Before her election, Dr Theobald Hategekimana who is the chief manager of the CHUK was the one who presented himself for the post but he took back his candidature.
He thereafter urged his voters to vote for Mukaruliza Monique.
Mukaruliza remained competing with Regine Mukeshimana who finally lost the race with eight votes only.
The newly elected mayor is the seventh mayor of Kigali city since 1994.
The Vice mayor in charge of economic affairs is Parfat Busabizwa who won the post with 188 votes.
The vic mayor in charge of social affairs is Judith Kazayire.
The President of the city’s advisory council is lawyer Athanase Rutabingwa, Vice president is Gasana Ismaël Janvier and the secretary is Gafaranga Brigitte.
