Yesterday, the National Post Office (NPO) cerebrated the international post day but its high officials say that the institution has lost 60 Million Rwandan francs within 7 years due to technology.
According to Mr Kayitare Celestin, the NPO (National Post Office) said that the institution has been created in 1922 during the epoch that Rwanda was politically joined to Burundi under the Belgian colonial administration.
He added that the Office undergoes a significant loss as the communication using messages has been eased by ICT’s.
Currently the Post Office works closely with MYICT that actively trains the youth on communication issues using modern devises.
The NPO is also facing a challenge of vehicles to dispatch mails to people across the nation but RURA,( Rwanda Utility Regulatory Authority) promised to help in this issue in the coming year 2014.
One of the veteran workers of the post Fulgence Kabudende said that the Office had lost a lot of working buildings during the genocide of 1994.
“We had 46 buildings but currently we only have 16 that are used in a proper way” says Kabudende.
The challenges that the NPO faces result from the use of electronic and technological devises in delivering messages something that reduces the sending of massages using the traditional ways that NPO provided.
The only uniqueness of the NPO is that it carries original papers having stamps contrary to tech papers.
