Kim Kamasa told Radio Isango that the Office of the Government Spokesperson works as an entity that provides relevant and important information concerning the life of the nation but does not provide every thing that is published on Rwanda.
During a one-hour show that was broadcasted in different radio stations including Isango, Isangano, Ishingiro, Izuba, Radio 10, Voice of Africa and Inkoramutima, invited guests discussed about the role played by the Office of the Spokesperson of the Government and its collaboration with media houses to inform the general public.
Among other invited guests were Ms Munyampenda Nathalie, Kim Kamasa and Muganwa Gonzagua. The most debated topic was about how the Office chooses what kind of information to deliver to the public.
Both Kim Kamasa and Natalie Munyampenda affirm that the role of the Office is to oversee and coordinate all necessary information that are useful to Rwandans and work together with all media to deliver them to the population.
As all Ministries have their communication officers, the OGS focuses on issues that have a nationwide importance such as the 20 Genocide Memorial Period, one of the guest told Isango presenters.
Regarding the fact that some news are not commented or reported by the Office on the due time, the representatives of the OGS namely Nathalie Munyampenda and Kim Kamasa said that all depends on the nature and the importance the news have.
It is not in the Office’s obligations or duties to have a say on every matter regarding Rwanda raised by different media especially the ones from the Western counties. They have their own editorial lines and we don’t pay much attention to all that is written or spoken to Rwanda especially if they focus on negative sides of our progress, one of guests said.
Asked about why the Office of the Spokesperson of the Government did not immediately reacted to the shameful rumor on the so-called ‘death’ of President Paul Kagame, the guests responded that the Prime Minister reacted about it through his twit that the rumor nothing else but a rumor.
So if the PM says something, we take it as a significant and complete response to that issue, they said.
It is impossible to always be lauded by all people. It is in everyone’s right to react on what Rwanda has achieved so far according to his/her understanding, one of the representatives of the Office said.
Listeners said that the Office of the Spokesperson of the Government should increase its collaboration with media so to be effective in all regards.
Normally the Office of the Government Spokesperson (OGS) oversees and coordinates the effective communication of Rwanda’s story to audiences at home and abroad.
Journalists also expressed their sad feelings on the death of the renown Ghanaian journalist Komla Dumor who passed way yesterday due to a heart attack. He was a dedicated journalist who has shown that wide range of knowledge for the profession and a love for his continent.
This show takes place every Sunday with an aim of informing the general public on the current issues both at national and at international scenes.
