Throughout this year, the Office of the Ombudsman reports that it has assessed 2.093 cases among other 5.190, adding that the 2.093 cases deserved  quick solutions.

The Ombudsman’s  office says that during the same year, it dealt with 14 cases that were previously settled but not fairly concluded.

Some of the most controversial issues discussed upon related to ways the Office of the Ombudsman has dealt with cases of corruption different people  are accused of. The people include highly ranked workers in different institutions and in other fields are part of the accused ones.

The most frustrating issue for MPs is the fact that only 100 small workers such as motorbikes, car drivers, farmers were the most legally concerned.

To this the Ombudsman Madame Cyanzayire responded that this is due to the fact those people work in sectors where giving and receiving corruption is the easiest, giving the example of drivers who can give the corruption to traffic police, among others.

The Ombudsman Madame Cyanzayire Aloysia explaining to the MP’s the content of the 2012-2013 report

She said that big people who corrupt each other have strategic ways to cover their deeds, knowing that this can harm them once uncovered.

Concerning money laundry, different  huge projects such as Bugesera International airport and in other institutions such as KIST, FARG, EWSA, KIST, are accused to have mismanaged public accounts.

Workers  in different projects say they have not been paid for the work they did.

To this the MPs urged the office of the Ombudsman to not only provide advisory support but rather to set up juridical ways to try the suspects.

To this, Madame Cyanzayire told UM– USEKE that the Office of the Ombudsman does not have the legal ability to legally  pursue people. Our duties strictly relate to the prevention of corruption related issues and the advisory support to fight against the crimes, she concludes.
