UM– USEKE has reported about different areas of Rwanda having names that are widely known to belonging to foreign countries, cities or provinces. We discovered another area in Kicukiro district named Paris in reference to the French capital city: Paris.
There names include Nairobi area located in Rukare sector Kayonza district in Eastern Province of Rwanda. There is another place called South Africa in Remera Sector, Gasabo Distict in Kigali city.Brussels is another area located in Rugerero sector, Rubavu district in the Western Province.
However, there is another place called Paris in Kicukiro district, Masaka sector , Gako cell. The place was named Paris in 1986.
It is a densely populated area in which the agriculture is the main economic activity in practice.
Paris area was formerly called Mwasama but a certain Gahushyi nicknamed it Paris for unknown reasons.
UM– USEKE visited Gahushyi whose real name is Habyarimana Joseph. The elderly man told UM– USEKE his decision to settle in in this remote area so to practice the farming activities.
The name Paris came in after nicknamed a local bar PARIS as to change the name Mwasama that he found unfitting.
Locals came in the bar to enjoy drinks and started calling the place Paris in reference to the bar.
