Today the 13, August, the Kigali city officials and RNP traffic department have launched a road safety month throughout which road users will be reminded the importance of safe road use and maintenance.
Many officials from the Kigali city and Police staff were present. It was also attended by the bikers and car drivers from Kigali and its outskirts.
The participants started by the cleaning and painting roads so that the pedestrians and all other road users might be able to identify the road signals,especially the so-called Zebra crossing white-black lines.
The drivers were reminded the forbidden behaviors including over-speeding,phone use while driving, driving when some one is drunken, driving while one feels tied among other risky behaviors.
The Mayor of the Gasabo district Ndizeye Willy has reminded the value of avoiding deadly accidents.
It was worthless to over speed and spend more months in hospital or even die, he warned them.
The Governor of the Kigali city, Fideli Ndayisaba focused on the respect that should characterize all road users, urging that the pedestrians should be respected as well.
The Minister of internal security Mussa Fazzil Harerimana said that this road safety campaign takes once in a year and aims at reminding to the road users the importance of taking into account the lives of each road user.
He underlined that over speeding is the key root of the seriously and deadly accidents. He presented his sorrow feelings to the families that lost their beloved ones in the recent deadly accidents that took the lives of over 30 people in different corners of Rwanda.
