19, June, TIGO and the One UN have signed a memorandum of understanding upon which both organisations will join efforts to develop the youth and women through capacities building in business areas. The economic related agreement is worthy $ 4,5 million that will be invested in businesses related activities for four coming years.
Tigo will invest the $400 thousands and UN will provide the rest of the package.
The partnership will focus on the use of the mobile phones as to benefit from the update technologies and improve their livelihoods.
In the MoU, the focus will be put on the capacity building of the women and youth so that they can start their own businesses and live better as mothers and wives.
The agreement will also enhance the communication between business actors through the use of the mobile phones’ new technologies.
The CEO/TIGO Rwanda, Tongai Maramba expressed the commitment of Tigo as to both provide first quality telecommunication services and a remarkable contribution to the social and economic aspects of Rwandans.
The representative of the UN , Rwanda, Lamin Manneh said that the partnership will provide the youth and women with knowledge and skills to get decent jobs as it is embedded into the MDGs.
For him, the partnership highlights the willingness and commitment of world leaders of finding out lasting solutions to the problems facing women and the youth from the developing world.
