27 January 2015, Kigali, Rwanda—Tigo confirmed today that its customers can resume making calls and browse the internet following the restoration of services by 9pm yesterday.
On Monday Tigo users experienced difficulties accessing voice and using data services due to technical issues on one of the Tigo network operational databases.
Bright Owusu-Bempah, Chief Financial Officer at Tigo Rwanda said: “We apologize to our customers for yesterday’s incident. As soon as the fault was detected, our technical teams immediately focused their efforts on restoring the network to ensure services were returned to normal. Today, we have put in place appropriate means of relaying compensation to all affected customers.”
Tigo prepaid customers will have their voice and data bundles refunded within today.
In addition, throughout the day tomorrow, all Tigo prepaid subscribers reloading airtime will receive a 20% bonus on every airtime top up while postpaid customers will also receive a 5% bonus of their monthly airtime provision, all to be consumed within 24 hours.
To address any issue, customers can contact Tigo via its social media or call the call-centre on 456 from a Tigo number or 072 1000 456 from any other number.
