At least 32 people were killed and 90 others wounded on Monday when two car bombs tore through a pro-government district in Syria’s central city of Homs, said the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, a UK-based watchdog.
The bombings rocked the main square in the al-Zahra’ neighborhood in Homs.
State news agency SANA said six people were killed, citing the Homs governor who gave a preliminary death toll.
Al-Zahra’ is a district inhabited by adherents of the Alawite minority, an offshoot of Shiite Islam to which the ruling elite in Syria belongs.
Earlier this month, more than 20 people were killed and tens of others wounded when a bombing rocked the same neighborhood. The Islamic State group claimed responsibility.
