Rwanda U23 volleyball team captain Aimable Mutuyimana has said that the team needs to improve in the ‘reception’ department before next week’s African Championships in Egypt. Paul Bitok’s boys defeated a select side made up of players from local clubs 3-1 on Wednesday, with Mutuyimana saying it was a good test for them although there is still a weakness in reception.

The national side won the first set narrowly (26-24), and lost the second (25-22) before bouncing back to win the next two sets (26-24, 25-15).

The U23 team is scheduled to play against the same select side today at Amahoro indoor stadium, starting at 6pm. The team is expected to depart for Egypt on Monday.

“We are getting better; we have played two matches so far and won. However, we need to improve on the reception because most of our opponents in the U-23 African Championship are strong with their service,” Mutuyimana said.

Last year, Rwanda’s U-19 and U-21 teams beat Algeria and Morocco respectively in the African championships to qualify for the world championships for the first time.
