Yesterday PS in MINEDUC, Dr Harebamungu Mathias told reporters that due to newly readjusted lists of Ubudehe categories, more students are listed to receive university fees.
This comes in after a group of student wrote a letter and presented it to the Prime Ministry to protest against the way needy students to receive university support were categorized.
A big majority of them were categorized in the third class where they had to pay for themselves the whole amount of fees.
After protesting against this, the MINALOC has set up a new committee to revisit these categories, a committee that came out with new categories allowing 10,216 students to receive bursary among 13,298 students in the category.
Minister Harebamungu says that Ubudehe new categorization materialized after different government entities observed a weakness in the way it was done before.
MINEDUC informs students who remain at home waiting for the adjustment of Ubudehe that the list of the students allowed to receive the full support in the university can be found and ready from their respective schools and at the REB
According to the MINEDUC 70% of university students registered and others still have time to register as the deadline ends on 30,September,2013.
Few days ago, the law governing the functioning of the University of Rwanda was released.
Minister Harebamungu Mathias reminded journalists that the bursary that students receive will be paid back to government treasury.
