During a recent meeting between Journalists and Artists, participants watched a documentary movie expressing the views of citizens on whether the unity and reconciliation reached a satisfactory level.
According to documentary, many voices raise to say that if the government does not take care, genocide can happen.
Respondents were required at to respond according to six pillars that follow: citizens’ participation on the political process, ethnic groups, good neighborhood, security and justice.
35% of respondents responded that there is no significant involvement of the citizen in the political process,30% responded that they lack land to cultivate and this hampers the effectiveness of unity and reconciliation between Rwandans.
27 affirm that national and public wealthy is not shared fairly to all Rwandans equitably.
30% of the respondents affirm that ethnic group based stereotypes still exist while 25% said that they consider others not trustworthy enough.
However the most prooccpiying is the fact that 40% of respondents affirm that even if the Gacaca juridication successfully concluded at 85%, genocide is likely to happen if the government backs it.
For 30% of the respondents find political parties very susceptible to bring more chaos in Rwandans if not managed very well.
During the analysis of these statistics, respondents pointed out that genocide is most likely to happen if the government is behind ideologists as it was the case formerly.
Listing ome of the challenges against full achievement of peace and reconciliation some said that parents who still teach their children Hutu,Tutsi and Twa issues are at the first place.
Second come intellectuals and opinion leaders who have a strong on people’s thinking and behaving.
At the other hand respondents say that genocide cannot happen as many of Rwandans have experienced its negative effects.
However as Habyalimana Jean Baptiste, The NURC manager, the researchers were intending to have an understanding of both sides so to have a complete picture of the reality on ground.
Despite that ,Dr Habyalimana said that the security that Rwandans have today is a result of peaceful neighborhood between Rwandans.
