In the wake of Mike Brown‘s tragic death in Ferguson, Missouri, The Game has recruited a large portion of the hip-hop community for this tribute song titled, “Don’t Shoot.” In total, the song features a real class of heavyweights which includes Rick Ross,2 Chainz, Diddy, Fabolous, Wale, DJ Khaled, Swizz Beatz, Curren$y, Yo Gotti,Problem, and TGT.
The track is over six minutes long, and begins with an inspirational message from Khaled before transitioning to the powerful hook with kids singing the lyrics, “Time to take a stand save our future, like we all got shot, like we all got shot.”
There are a number of notable and strong lyrics on the song, including Ross’ line, “Keys to the city yet we left in the cold, hands in the sky, still was left in the road, Michael Brown another soul by the system, black men we pay the toll.”
It’s worth noting that both Fabolous and Wale mentioned the Ice Bucket Challenge, and how they feel its taking attention away from the ongoing situation happening in Ferguson.
Diddy delivered a solid verse on the song, though it seems like he did use a line to promote his Ciroc vodka with the lyric, “We gotta stick together, we all we got, when police taking shots and I ain’t talking about Ciroc.”
