The REG’ manager Jean Bosco Mugiraneza told UM– USEKE reporter from Muhanga that the long lasted construction of the Nyabarongo Power Plant is finally completed with the production capacity of 28 megawatts.Rwanda expects more energy from this newly completed power plant so to handle electric power related challenges that hinder the national economy from keeping its pace.
In the previous years, Rwandan economy was consuming not more than 120 megawatts but with the current added 28 megawatts, the electric power is sufficient enough to help the investments moving forward.
The Nyabarongo power plant’s construction is worthy 100 million US Dollars and will soon be inaugurated by senior officials.
In Rwanda only 19 per cent of households are equipped with electric power while Rwandan government has planned that in 2017, 70 per cent of households will be equipped with electric power.
