Police Chief Kale Kayihura has made yet more changes in the force, appointing Fred Yiga the Chief Political Commissar. Assistant Inspector General of Police (AIGP) Yiga replaces AIGP Assuman Mugyenyi who has been appointed the Director of Operations in the Police Force.
“As chief Political Commisariate, AIGP Yiga Fred is tasked to ensure a culture of professionalism takes root among all personnel in the force, and to fight indiscipline among others,” according to a press release by ACP Polly Namaye, Deputy Press and Public relations officer.
The statement from Inspector General of Police Kayihura stated that “the CPC must strive to inculcate such professional values as discipline, hard work, stamina, sense of mission, sense of history and sense of sacrifice.”
It added that ” At the same time he must spearhead the fight against negative attitudes, tendencies that have the effect of undermining, and are subversive to, the force especially in terms of discipline, morale and cohesion. He must without delay ope-rationalize the department of political education.”
“He must also aggressively work to improve the public image of the force.”
As Director Operations, AIGP Mugyenyi is now charged with integrating all operational units of the police Force such as Police stations and posts among other duties.
“These transfers are normal, take immediate effect from the time of signing and are aimed at ensuring that the rectification campaign the Police has embarked on gains ground so as to be more accountable, efficient and proffessional in delivering Police services to the people in Uganda,” the police statement said.
Mugyenyi replaces Haruna Isabirye who has also becomes the first AIGP to head ASTU which has recently been made independent from Field Force Unit.
